I placed an order for some vinyl resin a week or so ago and with my order I could receive 1 lb of zinc acetate for free...so why not? Thusfar in my venture to make my own igniters and rocket motors I've come across no use for this substance...what do you guys use it for and could it be used in a motor composition?

Thanks,

Shane

No real pyro use, it is normally used in medicine.

Zinc acetate lozenges for the flu, tablets for zinc defincency and in larger doses to treat a nasty liver disease where copper accumulates in the body cause severe jaundice and neurological problems, zinc blocks copper absorption in the gut.

Don't know if it would work, but you could try a displacement reaction with a more reactive metal.

Would an acetate react with an oxidiser (burn)? Zinc acetate might work for a smoke formula. Not sure though, just that I have seen references to elemental zinc being used in some smoke formulas, and it's the zinc oxide that makes the smoke, so if zinc acetate burnt to form CO2, H2O, and ZnO, you could have a pretty good smoke comp.

Zinc Acetate will decompose to Zinc Oxide at about 800*C. It would be good but you would need Chlorate's or Perchlorate's to get the temperature but don't hold me to that, not sure of the temperature produced by either of them
