Okay folks, I'm fairly new to this forum but have been looking into Pyrotechnics for a few weeks now.

I've noticed that things are a lot harder and hence more expensive to get hold of here in the UK.

Can I ask what the best prices you have found for a few things, the best I've come accross so far is as follows, these prices do not include P&P.

Potassium Nitrate ---------- ?7.17/Kg
Charcoal Power ------------ ?7.58/Kg
Sulphur Powder ------------ ?5.64/Kg
Aluminium Powder --------- ?20.68/Kg
Potassium Permanganate - ?/Kg (NA-still trying to find)

Visco fuse (if you could even get hold of any) ?/foot (NA-still trying to find)
Tubes (in whatever sizes and bundles they come in) (NA-still trying to find)

Now, I can understand (even though I don't agree <_< ) with the reason that most serious Pyro's don't want to give the info out about where they get their supplies from. But that's not what I'm asking..........I just want to have some prices to compare to.

If one of the Admins/Moderators could pin this thread, it could help others to source better suppliers.

Also, I have family in the USA and I may be going out there this year. If I do, I will be looking into the legalities of bringing some stuff back.

If it's not going to get me into trouble with the law, I will be looking at bringing back a few 100ft of fuse and about a thousand tubes. I'd be happy to get some stuff for people on here too. But this is a while off anyway, so I'll let you know closer to the time.

Well, that's about it. Thanks in advance for any responses :D

Regards,
HJS.

actully, I'm thinking more in the direction of deleting the thread rather then pinning it!

We are not a trade forum - we discuss pyrotechnic. If you want to tell us about suppliers or prices that's fine, but this really falls under general discussion rather then aspect of pyrotechnics.

BigG, sorry for posting in the wrong section.

I was after some prices to compare too, I was hardly trying to trade anything.

Why do people in Pyrotechnics seem so cagey ? <_<

If I can get hold of something, I'll share that info with people, isn't that what the BB's are for ?

Never mind, this discussion will probably get locked or deleted now.

Thanks for all your replies..................

I don't think we are THAT cagey. We just don't want another rec.pyrotechnic, which has so many unrelated topics and duplicates. We want quality forum. In fact, I would argue that with the exception of some paid sites, we are the most down and to the point forum in the area of pyrotechnic?

A lot of people get the feeling that they have to post or the forum will die. The way I see it, it?s better not to post if it?s just for the purpose of posting. Also, note that if I wanted to lock the thread, I would have done it in the first instance. I just moved it, which suggest I will let it roll and see where it goes. I most certainly don?t think it?s important enough to pin.

BigG, to pin the thread was just a suggestion, you're choice of course.

Well, what can I say, I thought that lots of people would reply

It was not just for my benefit, I figured if we all shared our prices, we could then make a more educated decisions on out future purchases.

Well, let's see if we can still do that........... :D

I'm sure if people really want to let you know they will Private Message you. I can see threads like this going on for several pages with no real outcome.

I can get Visco fuse for less than ?5 for 100m, but since you can't get it, it's of no relevance to you.

If we come across as negative, then thats just unlucky, but like G said, we are maintaining a concise, clean forum. Thats why we screen applicants to start with.

Anyway, if you do a SEARCH of the forum I am certain you will get some prices.

Simple really, it's because you only need one person to ring up a supplier and say "I've heard you sell xxx for making fireworks" to kill a useful source stone dead...

Shame but true!

Yes, people may well private message me, but without the ability to mind read they would need this topic to see what I'm after <_<

That's great for you that you can get visco. What exactly was the point in posting that ?

Anyway, I've now managed to get a few more suppliers details and better prices. But I've got to say that it is quite difficult to find the right chemicals at a decent enough price............and yes, I've searched LOTS.
