Hey,
I know this isn't a pyro question but can anyone give the product of the following reaction?

CH3-C=CH-CH2-OH + CH3-CH2-COOH

sorry the ch3 group on the alcohol shifted up when i submited to its, its suppowed to be one place up

The product will be an ester; an alcohol and a carboxylic acid produce an ester.

In this case:

CH3-CH3-CH=CH-CH2O(HO)CH-CH2-CH3

In this case:

CH3-CH3-CH=CH-CH2O(HO)CH-CH2-CH3

There's something dodgy about that. Esterfication is a Acid + Alcohol --> Ester + Water. It would be something more like

CH3-CCH3=CH-CH2-COO-CH2-CH3 + H2O

isnt CH2 acetone?

CH3COCH3 is Acetone. CH2 is the methylene group e.g. hexamethylene tetramine which is (CH2)6N4
