I would like to post video, I just don't have the first idea on how to do it or where to start. Does the media have to be filmed digitally (pictures and video) or is there a way to use taped media?

I know there are many out there with lots of expirience on the subject, maybe you guys can help me out

Check your PM. I was in middle of typing it 5 minutes before you posted this. Then 45 minutes later I realised I did not send you the PM from your post in the spherical shells thread and sent it. All while not realising you posted this thread.

You can use video media that is either digital or on tapes. Though most newer digital camcorders record on small tapes. Or did you mean on older camcorders which recorded on VHS tapes?

Either way you need a cord that plugs into the camcorder and then into your computer through a USB port or your firewire card. Older camcorders often need bit pricy cords though you may be able to find some cheaply.

I would recomend transferring through an IEEE cord over USB due to quality of video after the transfer.

Usually you also need some type of program that enables you to transfer the video and that recognizes the camcorder after it is plugged into the computer.

Pinnacle Systems (http://www.pinnaclesys.com) make a verity of products to allow you transfer of movies directly from your camcorder (using DV connection) or from other video devices such as VCR. Their software usually comes with the right hardware as well (But you have to check it out). Usually, if you have a DV output on your camcorder, you will require a firewire card (Come with some of the pinnacle products) to transfer things quickly as USB standards are a bit slow.

Most video capturing programs will first copy the movie in some sort of a raw format to your machine, taking a huge amount of disk space, and then will allow you to reformat the captured video into an AVI file or an MPG file which you can put on a CD, DVD, or just keep as a file to publish on the internet.

That?s more or less the basics.

If you have an old camcorder that cant plug in via usb or firewire, you can still get it onto your computer via the video output leads.
These must be plugged into a video capture card, and the audio leads plugged into the sound card. Then you have to use a program on your computer that will record the video as you play it off your camcorder.

You can get speciallised video capture cards, but you might be better off using a TV card, as these do the same job, sometimes better, as well as being able to do other stuff like TV.
