I finally tested my ball-milled BP. I found that by using 1/3 of the media I had and 50g of mixture I got much, much better results than with all the media and 100g - even though it only takes up a tiny little bit of the huge barrel!
Anyway, couple of questions. My powder is grey - I was expecting it to be black or greeny-black but it's very much a lovely grey colour. Any ideas why?
Also my powder burns very quickly and extremely brightly but it leaves behind a bit of white residue. Does this mean that there is too much KNO3 or perhaps that it isn't milled for long enough?
I milled it for 15 hours.
Cheers

Silicone + KMnO4 fuse?
07 March 2004 - 01:09 AM
Has anyone had any experience with this fuse?
It sounds very promising. Silicone + KMnO4 + sulpher. This is mixed and rolled thin, then cut into strips. Wrap it in insulating tape and bob's your uncle.
Apparently it's waterproof and very flexibile + it's supposed to burn very hot.
I don't fancy paying the steep prices for KMnO4 at GD though so I want to know if anyone else has any comments on it before I take the plunge.

Homemade ball mill - is coke bottle ok to use?
05 December 2003 - 10:58 PM
I've decided that I'm going to make my own ball mill as 5 minutes in the old mortar and pestle just doesn't cut it.
The only thing I'm concerned about is what to use for the jar. I was thinking that a coke bottle might be enough?
The only problem I thought about was that it might create static?
I presume it won't wear down with just lead balls in it.
Oh and I'm sorry if this has been discussed before but I searched for it and couldn't find anything.
Where can I buy potassium perchlorate ?
06 June 2003 - 10:11 AM
Hi guys
I'm trying to find somewhere to buy potassium perchlorate in the UK but I've had no luck.
I want to use it in a 70/30 flash powder mix but am having trouble finding any.
Thanks
