i fondly remember the asra fireworks `floodlights` in red/green and have played with various compositions in an attempt to recreate these,,the problem is a few grams isnt very effective, you really need 20g+ to get the desired effect and this produces a prohibitive amount of smoke..some time ago i bought 200g of hexamine when oliver brown was selling it and i wondered if i could substitute this for red gum in an attempt to reduce the smoke..i searched the threads here and on apc and done a bit of googling and learned that hexamine/chlorate is a nono so the vivid colours are out but i havent been able to find out if kcl04,ba/sr(no3)2 compositions would be safe,i can put up with pink reds and washed out greens if i can enjoy these in my garden without annoying the neighbours or attracting attention to my `activities`....cheers guys

i while ago i mixed 200g of 6 3 1 bp and rammed four 3/4 coreburner rockets,,the kno3 was from a ebay( and was sold as pyro grade) instead of my usual supplier,,,when i tested a motor it failed to develop enough thrust to fly and instead was like an upside down charcoal fountain,,a second test was identical...so i had 2 charcoal fountains left,i decided to see what would happen if i filled the hollow core with coarse mgal and al flitters...the result was a pleasing fountain with a strange pulsing effect, 5 times during the burn(which was longer than a similar sized solid core fountain) the fountain died to almost nothing then burst back into life in a large mushroom shaped pulse that looked really good,,im going to do the same with the other motor and hope to repeat this. if it works im going to try ramming my usual fountain mix using my coreburner tooling and see if i can repeat the results...does anyone have any ideas about the mechanisim behind this `pulsing` effect

the utube videos are impressive and suggest that this blue(binary)is also cheaper as well as safe,,well its not cheaper here if you can get it....i only make small amounts of flash so the cost is irrelevent if im able to mix/load this without my bottom going 5p50p5p50p5p50p,,does anyone have any comments?
is it safe?

hi everyone,,im joe from glasgow.i thought it might be a good thing if inexperienced newbies like me could post questions regarding the safety of specific proceedures,,,so if i may start the ball rolling....Q...is it safe to mix course 10-100 magnallium with flash for rocket headers or would it be prudent to use a flash bag and if so how is an even disperal of metal in the bust best achieved
