I used to get my chems from Roe Chemicals here in the west, they had all the oxidisers, metal powders etc, at a high price ofcourse(how does $83 for 500g BaNO3 sound? that was 1990!) but they seem to have gone out of business sometime in the last few years. Probably couldn't keep customers at that pricing.
I bought 500g of Silform KNO3 in '95 for $12 at Alwest Scientific in Perth city, I think it was pretty pure lab stuff. He made me sign some papers when I bought it but I think he was just worried 'coz I looked young(I was 20). Haven't been back since but he is still in business.
Last lot of KNO3 I bought was from a local hardware(the family business type) that had agri stuff. It cost me about $2.50 for 2kg or something stupid, I kid you not, but it smelled sweet, almost chocolatey, and was largish grains, but it ground down okay and burnt well. I might re-crystalise whats left tho.
Alan, Bunnings whorehouse(hehe) sells lump charcoal, atleast it does here. I have not tried it tho 'coz I make my own willow.
As I'm just getting back into it, I'm a tad out of touch, but if I find/think of anything else, I'll drop it here.

EDIT: Hey I've just had a thought, a close friend of mine recently started working for Wesfarmers or Coogee Chemicals, can't remember which, but thats where they actually manufacture a lot of the stuff. I'll see if he has access to anything.(BTW, Wesfarmers owns Bunnings, BBQ Galore, WA Slavage(Salvage) and Spotlight, if your interested, great WA company )

Somewhat off topic......If one more person starts a topic on where to buy KCLO4 I think my head will detonate. That topic has been posted to death, and we'd all really appreciate it if you searched!
Get used to it.
I don't mean to be rude, but the fact is, it's only going to get worse.
How do I know? I've seen it all before.
I'm a member of the following forum:
http://www.rcgroups....?topic=air-elec
It used to look just like this one.
When I first registered there it was a nice friendly place with a couple thousand members, no advertising, the forum's server was fast and never got attacked, it was nice.
Now there's 27,000+ members, sometimes more than 1200 on at one time(900ish when I just had a look), there have been numerous server upgrades, advertising to pay for it all, even special memberships with bonuses to pay for it all, the server gets attacked by hackers/script kiddies etc on a fairly regular basis.
The admins/moderators and old-time members have given up on the "please search", I think most of them now just copy/paste the replies to common questions.
One moderator there has clocked up over 10,000 posts since I've been a member, I'm sure it would have to be a full-time job for him now.
To be totaly honest I don't even go there these days, too big and slow now.
And too many idiots.
I don't think pyrotechnics is a popular enough subject to attract a membership as large as that, lets hope not, it really has ruined what was once an awesome forum.
Sorry about the doom and gloom, I can't see this forum getting as big, but the membership here will grow, and the number of repetetive posts is likely to follow suit.
Simon
I just noticed they now have 2, 3 even 4 moderators per forum! It's really getting out of control.

I just realised where I've seen that name before. There is also a cheap place called Silform Chemicals in Paramatta but i think they might only sell to schools (which is fine for me) hehehe.
Checked an old (1992) Receipt from a chem supply in Perth and yep, its got 500g KNO3 written on it, from Silform ... Cost me $12 in '92 for half a K! Hate to think what it would cost me now.
Simon
EDIT: Just checked the guy's scribble again, its '95 not '92

I understood that ofcourse, but I also mistakenly read it as saying they were a licenced Qld company in Qld.... easy to do when your just quickly flicking around websites half taking things in.All this is saying is that you can't buy from anyone who dosn't have a license to sell.
Pokie Machines?? I have no idea what this is but it sounds like its a good thing their illegal.
A pokie machine is one of those things you drop(poke) coins in, and then pull a lever and you get 3 lemons, or 1 lemon 2 stars etc etc. Las Vegas is full of them I believe, as are lots of clubs/bars and pubs in some Australian states.
I've never had problems with stuff from skylighter either, but paying $50 USD each time for shipping is getting pretty painful and it takes *three or four months* to get here by surface, which is just insane when it is ment to be 4-6 weeks.
$50US ?!?!?
Hmmm, there goes that idea.
Thanks for the warning.
