The shells work verry good for such small things, i dont see why using the bottle caps themselves as the shell wouldnt work.

Have you thought about hummers? I have seen small commercial cakes with single shot hummers and a video of a mine with hummers which I believe was vulcan fireworks but not any shells loaded with them. Here is a link to the video of the 4" mine with hummers.
Some nice whistles with a silver tail.
Falling leaves. If you can obtain the falling leaves fuse from skylighter it works very well. Not sure though how well it would work in shells over commercial size though.
Go-getters.
I have some more ideas if you would like.
Wow, lol, what a neat effect!
It seems a little bit dangerouse tho, and seems like alot of work, but that effect is crazed! They would look verry nice in a aerial shell, i might try that once my parants let me buy 300g kno3 (they are really anti-pyro and if im lucky that will be all the kno3 im going to get)

Got a couple of questions here aswell, I know that you should never ball mill colour comps, however would it be ok if you didnt use any media and jsut had lifting veins for thourghly mixing it, kinda like a cement mixer?
The other question is, what effect would you get if you just filled a shell (canister or ball shell) with a colour comp and a break charge? No stars, just the powder?
Fraser
Well, i think if the break works as it supposed to then the comp powder will just be thrown into the air, so just a bang i guess or if you were using something slower as break then you might end up with an aeiral fireball maybe.
But thats just my opinion.
