So recently ive been attempting to make chlorate flash and most of the time it just deflagerates fast which im not looking for. I understand the danger with chlorates too so you dont have to mention it =)

I make my chlorate with a cell using platinum electrodes, i make a 1 1/2 liter solution of 450 grams of potassium chloride and run it in the cell for about 4-5 days with about 3-5 amps 6 volts. I rinse it with cool water and let it dry.

I have 600 Mesh Flake AL (got if off ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/...1QQcmdZViewItem)

Ive tried these ratios:
KCLO3/AL
7:3

6:4

65:45

55:45

Ive also added sulfur to them to speed it up and ive only got about 2 good tests with 6:4 and i still can't figure out whats wrong

Any tips?

Ive done a few tests with nitrate and perchlorate flash using 2micron flake al powder and it works pretty good, ive used 3500 mesh granular al powder before in nitrate flash (granular powder has gravel shaped particles with points edges, 2nd most reactive form) and it still works considerably well. Ive noticed lots of topics on aluminum powder and its forms. Do any of you think i could use granular 3500 mesh al powder for chlorate and perchlorate flash with a decently fast deflageration rate?
