Ok to press ammonium chloride smoke mix?
17 July 2009 - 06:44 AM
Hey everybody, I was just experimenting with a smoke formula I stumbled across with pretty promising results (ammonium chloride 50 parts, Potassium chlorate 35 parts, Sugar 15 Parts) But I'm curious to see how it would perform when pressed. While I'm told that the chloride/chlorate combination is relatively stable, I'm not sure if it would stand up to my 12 ton hydraulic press. Could anyone enlighten me to the possibility of catastrophic results from this? I appreciate it
Kclo3+lactose......

Hello again, just a quick question for everyone: Can potassium chlorate and lactose be used to make white smoke candles in and of themselves? Every single smoke composition utilizing them (that I've come across at least) includes the use of a dye.
But as with the old nitrate/sugar mixture, can they simply be mixed together for anything approaching impressive results? If so, could someone enlighten me to the best ratios to use?
Thanks everyone!

70/30 Magnalium
12 February 2008 - 05:30 AM
Hi there everyone! As my first topic (and post for that matter) I hope this hasn't been discussed yet, as my search yielded no results.
I recently purchased some 70/30 Magnalium from Ebay, and was curious how it would compare with the more commonly used 50/50. Does the higher magnesium content result in increased sensitivity as opposed to the 50/50 (water, shock, friction, etc.), or do the characteristics remain relatively unchanged?
This is my first time utilizing the alloy alltogether, so I just wanted some clarification on what to expect Especially since this stuff is 600 mesh....the seller offers no coarse alternative at this time.
Thanks everybody!
