anyone heard of/used/seen this product ???
Its called mystical fire - http://www.mysticalf...uk/product.html
it appears to be a pouch of powder - you throw it in the fire, and hey presto - multi coloured flames.
I'd be interested to hear if any one has used, or made, a DIY version - for use on a bonfire ( fairly big one at that)
i was thinking Borax, Magnesium carbonate, Potassium chloride....1:1:1, 200 g each, placed in seperate parts of the fire pre-ignition......
any thoughts ?

Ground salute.....
27 October 2010 - 07:46 PM
Hi guys - quickie here.
after gobsmacking the people who attend my yearly bonfire/fireworks last year with my firecrackers,EVERYONE who is coming this year has asked if i'll be doing the same, or something similar....
Now, noise is a integral part of fireworks for me, so i always make some ( nothing fancy, 3/4 dia tubes, 5 inch long, thick walled, Filled with Mg/Pot Nitrate 50:50), along with a small roll of micro crackers.
So, forgetting all that, i plan to make 1 ground salute to either start, or end the display. At the moment, i was planning on using a 2 4 inch shell casings - likely 1/2 filled with the above flash compostion. I favour it for being easy to mix, easy to ignite, LOUD, and ( relativly ) safe.
now, obviously taping up shell casings with flash inside : a - won't be easy, and B : won't be safe.
for that reason, i wonder if i would be safer using a plastic container - with the flash being mixed ( in small batches ) on site, 30 mins before use......Im open to suggestions, and also keen to know what the industry standard is.
Thanks in advance.

Out of interest, has anyone ever heard of a Perchlorate/Bitumen mix as a rocket Fuel ?????
Or, indeed, has anyone tried/experimented with it ???

Out + Out Chemisty question.

Complete random here......BUT
I need to know if its possible to make an EGG burn ?????
Don't ask why - its " i bet an egg can burn" vs " i bet it won't" type thing.
Answers on a post card.
So far, ive considered making Kno3/egg meringue - but it'll take forever to dry out....

ID vs Length...VS Choke dia. Fountains
04 November 2009 - 07:00 PM
hi guys, another one to pick your brains...ive done lots of fountains in the past - but nothing really all that big....I'm hoping to construct a larger series, and could do with some advice.
am i correct in understanding that the generally accepted theory, is that a fountain's choke should be 1/3rd of its ID ???? so a 30mm ID Tube requires a 10mm Choke ?
My next question relates to the length of the tube.....take these 2 examples...
A short tube, with an 30mm Id, and a 10mm choke....say is 100mm long...so when the comp has burned to halfway, the volume of the empty void is 35 cubic CM.
a long tube, with an 30mm id, and a 10m choke...lets say this one is long, 300mm. Now, when the comp as burned to half way, the volume of the empty void is 106 cubic cm.
So the pressure in the tube(at halfway) is 1/3rd of that of the shorter tube - so by that fact, should the choke be made smaller, in order to retain pressure for longer??
i guess what im asking is there a magical guide for working out choke dia....but taking into account the length of the tube, and the diam ?
