Danger of more legislation

07 March 2019 - 06:18 PM

Don't know how many still read this, but there is another possible attack on our freedom. I received this from Mark at Fireworks Crazy & I'm sure he will not mind me repeating it word for word. Please respond to the government if you don't want a total ban imposed by do-gooders!

You may be aware that there has been a recent request for a Government Enquiry into the sale and use of fireworks in the UK. This is a chance to get your views across as either someone who relies on fireworks for a living, raises money for good causes using fireworks or as someone who simply enjoys using a lawful product responsibly.

There are two means of getting information to the government. One is an online questionnaire (riddled with inaccuracies but we will live with that for now) and the other is a written submission where a text response and images if necessary, can be submitted.

It is very important that you have a chance to have your say because of the repercussions that any changes to legislation, or even a ban, would bring.

Written submission deadline date 8 April 2019 :

Online submission deadline date midday 26th March 2019 :

The final link is to the Scope of the inquiry:

It is clear from this that they DO want input from "...lots of different organisations and groups, including central and local government, the emergency services, medical professionals, health and safety and accident prevention specialists, people who work with or sell fireworks, and cultural and religious groups for whom fireworks often have a special significance."

Just so you are aware, the request for Enforcement Authorities (Police, Trading Standards etc) to have their say too has been made and circulated.

Getting the facts from all sides is the only way this will be resolved.

If you are a club, association, charity or PTA be sure to tell them how much you raise each year and the total you have raised over the last 5 or 10 years, how significant this amount is to your overall fundraising budget, what this money has been spent on and what effect the loss of these funds would cause you.

We would also suggest that you reiterate that you are already a heavily regulated industry/user; strict laws exist and that you would welcome an increase in penalties for misuse, and would like to see stricter enforcement of the existing laws. We as an industry would welcome this,

I can't stress HOW IMPORTANT it is that we all voice our views on this. Failure to do so could lead to huge restrictions on the fireworks we are allowed to sell and even as far as a total ban on retail fireworks. There are huge ramifications to this, illegal sales, black market, dangerous untested fireworks, huge increases in prices of professional displays and subsequently ticket prices.... The list is huge....

If ANYONE would like to talk to me further about this please do email me at mark@fireworkcrazy.com call the office on 01245 354422 or message me on facebook.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and hopefully you'll be able to spare five minutes to complete the submission form.

Kind regards
