I'm not sure if it would be acetone proof or not, but ive seen glass/metal misters at department stores in the garden section. i think theyre meant more for looks than to be used, but hey, its worth a shot. if i remember right they were like $3 here in the US

That should work well. I remember last time i made smoke comp the stuff i made with granulated sugar burned a little faster than that with powdered sugar (no idea about the mesh sizes). I couldnt think of why, because it wasnt melted together, only mixed. That would explain it well enough. I never thought i'd hear of someone corning KNO3/sugar...

Was there any comp left in the tube after it was finished burning? if so then im not sure what could have gone wrong, but if not then try adding more effect charcoal (not airfloat) which will make it burn for longer with more sparks. It is possible that the composition you were using was too energetic and more of a driver than a fountain composition

Grinding metals in a ball mill is dangerous. It can be done, but there is a chance they will burn rapidly when the mill is opened due to the heat of an oxide layer forming on the particles. If i were you, i would not attempt it. It also takes a lot longer to grind a metal in a ball mill than a non-metal. This is because metal is ductile, so it does not break up like crystalline substances would.
