I think the word is "acrid".I think most fireworks shops will have coloured sparklers- although perhaps they are being phased out? I used to think that the fumes they gave off were sometimes a bit cough-enducing. Sorry, I can't think of a better word!
I believe they burn gold, the ones I have do.I got gold sparklers for the kiddies! (now my brain has gone to sleep and i cant remember if non colour sparklers produce white or golden sparks)
anyone?
You could tape 3-5 of each colour together and make a cheapo flareIf only i could get ride of mine i have about 20 packs of them and 20 packs of Monster ones, don't ask how we got them lol.

Reminds me of a chemistry teacher at my school who quit a couple of years ago. He always disregarded instructions and used way more than he should have.
On one experiment "jelly baby experiment" he used 3 times the amount of reactants and smoked out the top floor of the science block which also set off the school wide fire alarms....

They burn more like a dull hand held flare in my experience...A portfire is a small slow burning stick, which has an exposed ember to light fireworks. They generally last for around 3-4 minutes and are included free in most packs
